Google Inc will launch a new version of its Nexus 7 tablet powered by Qualcomm Inc's Snapdragon processor around July, two sources told Reuters, as the software giant pushes deeper into the cut-price mobile hardware market.

The latest version will have a higher screen resolution, a thinner bezel design and adopt Qualcomm's chip in place of Nvidia Corp's Tegra 3, which was used in the first Nexus 7s released last year.

Pricing is yet to be determined but Google is aiming to ship as many as eight million of the Asustek-made tablets in the second half of the year, throwing down the gauntlet to other low-end tablets such as Amazon.com Inc's Kindle Fire and Apple Inc's iPad mini, so you can most likely expect to see Google price the new gadget more competitively at $149 or alternatively at $199.. the same as the first generation that rolled out last June (while the old model may be discounted).

source: Reuters

So what are your thoughts/predictions on the next gen Nexus 7?

I am down for a new one.  Let's just hope they offer one that is at least 32gb of Storage to start.

So much for that, but in the adds for new Hangout they had a different looking Nexus 7.  Maybe a clue that something is coming??

I love my first gen N7.  Looks like I may pass it off to my son and get a 2nd gen.   ;)

I'll likely wait until next year if I even get a new N7. Grouper is currently treating me well with solid battery life and performance, so I've no reason to upgrade any time soon. That said, BRING IT ON so I can at least lust from afar.

I'm definitely interested in an updated Nexus 7.  I really enjoy using it for streaming local radio while reading outside, and a higher-resolution display would be nice.  Slightly smaller bezel as well.

Agreed.  I get why the current bezel is what it is, but a bit smaller one to accommodate a crazy awesome screen would be more than welcome.

Do I want a better version of the current tablet I own and love? well of course!! ... The only question for me is always going to be "how much disposable income (or credit) do I have?" --- at the time new devices come out....

Needless to say that if I had the dough I would get every new iteration of every device I own as soon as they come out ;) ...

Haha I hear that my friend.  I did that with phones not to long ago before I realized how much I actually burned by doing that.  Or maybe it was because I was never happy with what Verizon had :P.

Anyway,  if Google keeps it a Nexus device I would say it won't be overly expensive compared to something like the iPad mini.  Hell, the Kindle Fire HD is pretty nicely priced and that would be its primary competition I would think.

Well Youtube on my current  Nexus 7 is not acting like a good app.  I have the volume set to max and for some reason I can't hear half of the videos in a quiet room, and if there is noise I can't hear anything at all.  This doesn't happen on all vids just many of them. If I connect the tablet to my Bose radio or headphones there is no problem with the vol.  So I don't know what the issue is but right now Youtube is feeling kinda--- not good.

Maybe next gen will be better, but not sure I am going to get another tablet just to what vids.

This happens to me too. I wonder if its just youtube or the way the user recorded the video. Usually earbuds will help a little but sometimes its still too low.

Mine also does this. If it's more than a few feet from my head, I can't make out anything that's being said.

Weird. I don't have that issue. My only problem is with Hangouts. Ideally I do video hangouts from a PC but every once in a while I would like to use my Nexus and both the microphone level on my end as well as the volume for others is just horrid. Why even put a FFC on there if nobody can hear me speak? *sigh*
