Thoughts?

http://www.engadget....-goes-official/

Despite Samsung's tornado of marketing and handset creation, this at least looks promising to some degree. The durability, an LCD display, etc. (granted a lower spec camera). Curious to see how it looks/feels in person, and if the display is meh.

I have the Rickets!

My biggest complaint about the Galaxy line is the flimsy, cheap feel of the devices.  So, this version is very intriguing to me.

Honestly, I like this SLIGHTLY better than the GS4.

So definitely more sturdy, no AMOLED, and the same CPU/RAM/Battery? This is going to appeal to quite a few people. Only compromise is the camera, but that's not that bad.

I felt the same way when I first saw it. Not crazy about physical buttons but it's made for an active lifestyle so it's expected. I have a friend that works construction outdoors and I can definitely see him buying this.. as well as anyone else that works outdoors doing physical labor. Being waterproof and has a touchscreen that works with gloves on will be a big attraction.

If Samsung manages to get Touchwiz running as fast as it should be, Samsung will be killing it this year. Well they are already, but that would eliminate most complaints.

Not an issue for me. I'd flash this fucker straight out of the box most likely.

I'll probably stick with the regular S4 but we'll see.

For me, it looks much, much more appealing than the normal S4.  But I'm weird.

Those buttons aren't really doing it for me, plus they didn't mention if all teh features from the S4 are gonna be on this one. They probably will be though.

I just think it looks cool, buttons be damned.  I mean the S4 already broke code by having one, so YOLO, right? :P

+1 to that.

How are physical buttons considered to be more durable?

For durability, this is the phone I'll be getting next:

Still not sure if the Active keeps all of the original S4's features. I assume it'll have S-Health at least though. :P

If I can root this phone, and put an AOSP ROM on it, I might actually get it. Only for the times I'm hiking, camping, or sailing. It would be nice to have an active in all 3 of those scenarios. I wouldn't have to pack another camera, worry about dropping it, or worry about it getting a little wet.
