Motorola's plan to spend up to half a billion dollars on ad campaign to launch a mid-range phone continues today as invites for an August 1st New York event are being sent out to the press, as confirmed by various news blogs (read: the entirety of Google+).

Get ready for Motorola to debut its most highly anticipated and probably most highly over hyped device in years, the Moto X.  No idea what the "X" stands for yet, but reports exclusive to TAC can confirm it's unfortunately not for xylophone.

Nothing sells tech like '90s style and Scandinavian genetics.

Looks like the phone fits nicely in that girls hand, while Marilyn Monroe eye-fucks the camera.

Turns out they're all discussing the nuances of Keynesian economics while measuring the benefits of government health care versus a privately-funded system.

@7stringer the girl in the hat is an ardent socialist who hasn't held a job for 3 years and thus still uses a RAZR flip phone.  She also created said hat from the pants of a homelessman found trapped in a timebubble from the early 1980s.

The best thing so far about the phone is that it's got a big letter "X" in its name.

Where did the underwhelm come from?

@Cory Streater, a dictionary...

...and because it's probably going to have specs relative to a Cricket-exclusive Kyocera. :P

Marketing is only as good as its phone.  It can backfire very quick if they don't provide the hype that everyone has come to expect from this phone.

Just speaking for myself, I'm really interested in the quoted "optimization" term being bandied about, and the resulting experience it'll bring.

If they are successful at smoothing out the interface and the OS operation on this hardware, it will be a tremendous advancement that will drastically change the entire ecosystem.

All too many manufacturers slap together great hardware, add their "crapified" version of Android and drop it on the market because it will sell, regardless of whether it runs great or just good enough.

They have no motivation to optimize their phones because that added expense would lower their profits.

So, this is the key feature I'm looking at, and I'm holding off saying "Meh" until I actually get to handle the device.

I'm quite curious to see if this phone lives up to the hype.  It does have some good stuff going for it, such as what looks pretty much like vanilla Android.  Time will tell.

I choose Android...it's only logical.  VulcanSalute_zps9ab5f775.gif
