Does anyone know the difference between the two? Google's help page describes them both the same way.

Good question. I know mine hasn't synced in a month?

I'm wondering if "contacts" is your contact list in Gmail and "People Details" are the people you have circles in G+.

I found this post in Google's product forums. Apparently People Details is indeed related to Google+, and the screenshot that dmmarck posted is a known issue.

So, contacts syncs with Gmail and People Details grabs your Google+ info.

Does everyone else see this as well?

I've had people details unchecked since I got my Note II.

It could be why my sync notification gets all happy at random times.  Oh well.  Another reason to detest G+ :P.

Google photos.  Anyone know what these are.  I have photos loaded to the drive and I have drive synced but what are Google photos?

If you have "instant upload" turned on for Google+... It syncs/backsup any photos you take or whatever else is in your Gallery. Similar to Picasa web albums, which I think will eventually merge with G+.. we really dont need both.. Picasa was put on Android devices by Google anyways, and then once Google+ came out, they began using their own photo sync feature.

So its basically syncing any Android device you have with Google+.. That way your photos are backed up to the cloud or if you have more then one device, you can access all your photos in one place (Google+) You need instant upload turned on though. Ive been using it ever since I accidentally wiped my entire phone deleting all my pictures, so now I have it set to "instant upload" over a wifi signal only.
