The very last bullet surprises me. Are the earlier editions the same way?

Charging your Nexus 7 (2013)

The battery may not be fully charged at first. It’s a good idea to fully charge it as soon as you can.

Connect the micro USB cable to Nexus 7 and to the charging unit, and the charging unit to a power outlet:

SNP_8A30B60EAED5A3A37F46A8C715167552992E_3271595_en_v0.png

  • The charging unit varies by country or region.
  • Use only the USB charging unit and micro USB cable that come with your Nexus 7. Using a different charging unit or cable may damage your tablet.
  • To avoid risk of injury or damaging your device, peel the protective film from the USB charging unit and USB cable before charging the battery.
  • The input voltage range between the wall outlet and this charging unit is AC 100V–240V, and the charging unit’s output voltage is DC 5.2V, 1.35A.
  • Your Nexus 7 can be charged via the USB port on a computer only when Nexus 7 is in sleep mode (screen off) or turned off. Charging through the USB port will take longer than charging with the USB charging unit.

IIRC, you can charge via the computer USB regardless of screen on/off.  If this last bullet point is true, this sucks.

Maybe they're just saying that because a computer port doesn't power as much juice as a wall outlet, so while you can have the screen on and have it show charging, its not going to actually charge or increase anything.

My Nexus 10 is like that, a computer port is just not powerful enough so if I have the screen on, I actually lose battery life even though I'm connected and it shows as charging. If the screen is off, then yes it will begin to charge but the charge is very slow compared to an AC outlet.

Mine charged incredibly slow with a regular phone charger. The supplied cable was 2Amp and and I believe usb and most phone chargers are 1 amp

If I try to change mine from the USB port on my laptop, it will maintain current battery status, but will not charge.  If I turn the screen off, or even power off, it will charge very slowly.

Speaking of charging, has anyone's grouper started being finnicky with the microusb?  It doesn't always charge now; I have to manipulate both the male end and the corresponding wire.

Mine was plugged into the wall yesterday, and I noticed it wasn't charging while I was watching a movie for several hours last night. Well, technically it was charging because it wasn't loosing any charge, but it wasn't increasing.

I fell asleep around 11PM and noticed this morning it has not charged up past 60% :/

I have the 2012 model running stock 4.3 but rooted, and it will charge with the screen on, off, asleep or powered off from a USB connection:

Thanks,  I get a lot of inquiries about it.  I hope at least some of them have signed up here.

I think I remember reading that the pogo pin charger charges the device faster then the cable that comes with the tablet.

The 2013 Nexus 7 doesn't have the pogo pins though correct?

No pins, just standard USB or wireless which I have not tried because I don't have a charger.

Trying to charge it powered down. See if that helps. If not, time for an exchange :/

Well that sucks, i have not had those issues with mine. I don't think it will charge plugged into the USB like your post said, but the wall charger works well. I charge it about every 2 days unless I know I'm going to have a heavy usage day. I'm amazed at the standby power draw or lack there of really.

It just finished charging :)

I guess a reboot fixed it. I'm not sure what the deal was — perhaps an app gone awry.

It definitely doesn't charge with the screen on.

Has anyone had the chance to try wireless charging with the new Nexus 7!?

I'm looking into chargers to buy and the two that sound the most interesting are:

Zens: http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B005PL4JCE

&

Fatboy: http://www.att.com/s...dSearchTerm=PLA

I just heard of the Nokia pillow charger this morning while listening to TWIT; Myriam Joire mentioned it briefly...

No, I don't believe in sorcery.

I also need one of those really, really badly.
