There's a huge thread on Google's product forums regarding erratic touchscreen behavior on the new Nexus 7.

Complaints include:
  • Registering double presses on the keyboard.
  • Ghost taps in areas not anywhere near where the keyboard is being tapped.
  • Erratic multi-touch behavior (e.g., pinch to zoom).
Some say it gets better after a reboot, and then gets progressively worse.

Some people have exchanged theirs for a new one. There seems to be a mix of people stating that a replacement did or didn't fix the problem.

Here's a video someone posted using the app YAMTT (Yet Another Multi-Touch Test):

Nexus 7 multi-touch failure demo.

A Google Engineer (in that thread) said, "The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating. I'll post an update when there's new information to share."

I think people are hoping for a software fix, but based on the mixed bag, I'm guessing they have a hardware issue on their hands.

Mine is fine. Anyone else able to replicate this issue?

Wow, first screen lift issues with the 2012 Nexus 7 and now this. I've heard the defense, you get what you pay for but this is ridiculous.. especially if a software update can't fix it.

Knock on wood, my 2012 edition so far has not had any issues with the screen lifting.  It does seem like I did have a touch screen behavior issue when I first got mine last December but a factory reset resolved it.

And people think ASUS should make the N10 refresher too.

If it is a hardware issue, their gonna be getting some backlash from this.

I was getting the double presses on the keyboard thing, but I switched to a new keyboard from the Play Store and have not experienced the same issue so far...

That's actually pretty interesting. I don't think anyone mentioned that in the Google product forums I referenced.

Nothing to report here except awesomeness ;)

My keyboard is fine and multi touch works fine as well...

I have Nova Prime installed and I think I might start using Swiftkey soon...

They'll make it because of the Samsung GPU issue. Asus skimps everywhere they can, but I don't blame them. The price reflects it.

It would be an excellent compliment to a Nexus 7 if you had one :)

I shouldn't have drank so much gin, for that looks immensely confusing.

Perhaps I do have a problem... Can you guys do me a favor? Open the Gallery app and  open a folder that has a lot of thumbnails. Tap the thumbnails and report back how responsive the touchscreen is. I find that it's unresponsive unless I use the very tip of my finger.

As mentioned before i had no issues and neither did a lot of people. Plus, every device is gonna have issues. No need to change manufacturers over it, especially when overall the finished product was awesome. Will definitely stick with my Samsung 2012 Nexus 10. B)

FYI

I haven't had any multi-touch issues so far... GPS seems fine so far but then again I don't use my Nexus in the car on a road trip or anything... I haven't gotten my OTA yet but the old grouper did! The nexus 10 still hasn't gotten it either
