Just a quick note for you guys; the Note 3 is available to pre-order from T-Mobile starting the 18th of this month.  The pricing breakdown goes like this: if you go for T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan, you will throw down $199 up front, plus $21 per month for the next two years. If you want the Note 3's companion device, the Galaxy Gear, that will run you a cool $299 more (ouch).

The device will ship on (or before) as well as land in stores on October 2nd.

There is a landing page on T-Mobile's website right here where you can sign up for notification of availability. In the fine print, it lists a full retail price of $703.99.  Again, ouch.

Walked into a tmo store today and they said the note 3 pre orders were not available. Besides, the coverage map said I have to step outside to make calls. Fuck that shit.

What happens if you want to switch to a different device in 4 months? Do you have to cough up the balance?

Get the Verizon one, Johnny!

I would assume so, based upon how the contract is set up; you're financing that device, and thus, like any loan (which it is), the balance would be paid off before another would be taken out (i.e. if you went for another device).

So while it's not necessarily a "subsidy" in the traditional, carrier sense of the term, it is still a contractual agreement that has a significant penalty.
