Hi all,

I received my N5 and when I connected it through the USB cable to my desktop computer, it was detected and software installed by Windows but the phone never appears under Windows Explorer for me to be able to transfer files.  It just appears listed as an unknown device type in the Windows device list.  Has anyone had this happen?  Thanks!

Is USB Debugging on? Settings > build number.. tap 7 times to reveal the hidden Developer options > Developer options.. USB Debugging.. On.

Yes, that was one of the first things I did.

The phone does get detected but it just doesn't get properly recognized.  I'm wondering if there is an issue with the driver but Windows won't let me update the driver either.  It keeps saying it has the most up to date driver.

Glad you found it.

I used the Google USB driver. It works for the N4 too:

Honestly, Windows is a major pain in the ass when it comes to drivers IMO.

Thanks Cory.  Yes, the driver worked just fine with the N4 but it refused to work with the N5.  Essentially I had to remove the driver and reinstall it for it to work properly.
